On this list you'll find the best PC games we're playing right now—recent singleplayer hits, thriving esports, and a few modern classics that would improve any library. We'll continue to update this list as new games release, removing older favorites and replacing them with our latest obsessions. Rather than an ever-expanding list that reaches deep into the past,

 we're shooting for a practical answer to the question: 'What new PC game should I get?' At the end of every year, we recognize a select set of games in our Game of The Year Awards, with one receiving our overall GOTY prize. We've started posting our 2019 awards, and will continue recognizing the year's most surprising, well-crafted,

 and creative games through December 31. Above, you'll find a list of some of our favorite games of 2019, not all of which will be recognized in our awards, but all of which we recommend (listed in no particular order). We think just about anyone can get something out of these games—except for maybe Final Fantasy 14: Shadowbringers, which is fantastic but also requires the commitment to play through a hell of a lot of Final Fantasy 14 so that it comes through as a payoff. (Don't tell Steven "MMO" Messner we said so.) In 2020, we plan to revamp this list with a new format that better reflects the games we love and are playing right now, with more frequent updates that bring you recommendations from across our entire team, which spans Canada, the US, the UK, and Australia. For now, we back our 2019 recommendations above and below with complete confidence. Whatever kind of game you're looking for, you'll probably find it on this list.

Apex Legends

Apex Legends is the best battle royale game available now. The map is fantastic, the 'ping' communication system is something every FPS should have from here on, the guns and movement are great fun (no wallrunning, but sliding down hills feels great), and it's free-to-play with nothing to pay for except cosmetics. It isn't the game we expected from Respawn, but we're glad it's here. Check James' review for more.
